The Day Skipper Theory Course is a fun but thorough introduction to navigation for inexperienced skippers, or those wanting to refresh their skills.

The classroom based courses are taught in our high quality maritime training classes in our 2-Level premises at Largs Yacht Haven, with the latest training equipment. The course provides you with enough knowledge to navigate safely by day and a topic of lights on buoys on ships is also included to introduce you to cruising at dusk / night.

Most people who take this course are doing so because they want to achieve the Day Skipper Practical or I.C.C. to either bareboat charter a yacht, join a flotilla cruise, or perhaps buy a yacht / go sailing with friends etc. Some are also working towards professional qualifications or a Commercial Endorsement. The next level up is the RYA Coastal / Yachtmaster® Shorebased Theory Course.

However you choose to do it, all our Day Skipper Theory courses include the RYA Course Pack, Online Resources, RYA Electronic Chartplotter Access (where required and provided by RYA, all learing equipment and books, free use of classroom navigation instruments (or purchase your own to keep) and all mock and real assessment fees, as well as your final RYA Certificate.

Our multiple modern cruising yachts depart every Sunday at 1800hrs, with our experienced RYA Yachtmaster® Instructors and up to five people (individuals, couples & families), on-board.

Each night is spent at a different island / marina, before returning on Friday for about 1500hrs.
